Morris Township's pickleball scene centers on six public courts at John W. Ginty Field, 35 Woodland Avenue. The township runs scheduled open play, seasonal instruction, and a yearly badge system. Players get a dependable mix of social games, private court time, and skill development from spring through fall.

Morris Township surrounds the Town of Morristown, and both communities use Morristown mailing addresses. Their pickleball programs are separate. Ginty Field follows Morris Township registration and guest rules. The Town of Morristown's Lidgerwood badge does not provide access to the Ginty courts.

Six Courts at Ginty Field

John W. Ginty Field is the township's main place to play. Its six dedicated courts are open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Winter hours run from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., conditions permitting. Courts 3 and 6 are designated for advanced play.

A yearly identification badge is required for ordinary court use. Badges run from January 1 through December 31 and are issued through CommunityPass. Each registered Morris Township resident receives one guest badge and must stay with that guest. Every player must wear the correct badge where it can be seen.

Outside open play hours, court use is first come, first served with a one hour maximum when others are waiting. Courts change on the hour. Consecutive hours are allowed only when the courts are empty. Four players may use a court, and doubles takes priority over singles when a line forms.

Lessons and Skill Building

Morris Township Parks & Recreation offers seasonal pickleball sessions in spring, summer, and fall. These programs use separate CommunityPass registration and do not require a yearly court badge. Open Play and Paddle Rotation

Ginty Field's scheduled open play runs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7 a.m. to noon and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Weekend sessions run Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. These blocks are the most reliable route for a solo player who needs partners.

Players stack paddles from left to right in the rack at the main gate. The first four players enter an open court and play one game to 11, win by two. The losing pair rotates off, and the winners split to play the next two people in line. Everyone leaves after two consecutive games. When eight or more people are waiting, all four players rotate off and games may be shortened to nine points.

Private leagues and tournaments require written permission from Morris Township Parks & Recreation. Permit applications must be submitted at least 30 days before the planned start. Regular players can get organized competition through township programs, open play, and round robin games arranged within the posted court rules.

Guest and Visitor Information

A Morris Township resident can bring one visitor by using the guest badge included with the resident's paid registration. The resident must accompany the guest for the entire session. Open play is the easiest format for a guest because the paddle rack supplies partners and explains the rotation order.

Seasonal township sessions offer another route because participants do not need a yearly court badge. Registration is first come, first served, with township residents receiving priority. These multiweek programs work well for someone staying in the area long enough to attend a full session.
